Why do most tourists to Italy NOT visit Sicily? Everyone’s heard of Italy’s largest island, but it wasn’t until we visited Sicily ourselves (and read the tourist stats) that we realized how unpopular it is as a tourist destination compared to Italy’s other regions. In fact, almost 80% of Italy’s tourists visit its top 9 regions, which do not include Sicily. To be fair, I don’t think we could have named one Sicilian city without first looking at a map. And, it took us four trips to Italy until we visited Southern Italy! Well, today all of that changes! We’re FINALLY kicking off our Sicily road trip in the charming town of Cefalù, which totally surprised us! This town has everything you could ask for in a perfect getaway destination - beautiful beaches on the Mediterranean Sea, ancient history including temples and a castle, beautiful architecture, delicious Sicilian food, and great hiking!
