In this video, I’m talking about the kind of emptiness that isn’t physical. The feeling of lack. Disconnection. A quiet, spacious void that can feel frightening when it shows up. Many people try to fill that feeling with food. Or distraction. Or compulsive behaviours. Not because they’re weak, but because the experience of “nothingness” can feel deeply unsettling. I share a personal story about my recovery from brain surgery, and how morphine didn’t remove pain — it just changed my relationship to it. Food can work in a similar way. It doesn’t remove the void. It can simply make us care less about it for a moment. We’ll explore: • The difference between boredom and existential emptiness • Why your body is literally made up of mostly empty space • Why we experience spaciousness as threat • The “full but empty” paradox • How identity and ego are linked to the fear of the void • Why meaning — not fullness — may be the real work This isn’t about forcing yourself to stop eating. It’s about understanding what you might be trying to avoid when you do. If you struggle with emotional eating, and you’ve ever felt that deep “something is missing” feeling — this conversation is for you.
