It's been over 20 years since Andrea Yates shocked the world by systematically drowning her five young children in the bathtub at her home in Texas. Yates became the biggest news story of 2001 pre-9/11 as people around the United States and world debated: is she a cold-blooded villain? Or the victim of a broken medical system, religious extremism, and a terrifying diagnosis? Trigger warning: postpartum psychosis, severe mental health issues, and infanticide. This video was filmed in 2023. PERSONAL NOTE: Thank you to everyone who has checked in while I’ve been away. I have been wanting to come back, but the team thought it would be weird to just start posting again and never acknowledge my absence. As such, I avoided coming back despite wanting to and being very proud of this new long-form documentary, because I just didn’t have it in me to make a video specifically about my life in 2024. This has been the hardest year of my life without a doubt. I am healing, but definitely still living in uncharted territory for me. If I feel ready to discuss it publicly, I will let you know, until then I appreciate being able to get back to a bit of normal.
