Today, two of the five new stations in the West Midlands were opened for passenger use. These stations were Darlaston and Willenhall, which are both located in the Black Country area. Both these locations have had stations in the past, the original Willenhall Bilston Street and Darlaston James Bridge stations were both built on the then Grand Junction Raiwlay in 1837. Both were closed in 1965. In 2017, new stations at both Darlaston and Willenhall were proposed and were originally expected to open in 2024. The previous contractors builidng these stations went under and new contracters took over. Fast forward to March 19th 2026 and both stations have now opened for paassenger service. We went and visited both of these new stations for the first time, both stations are quite nice. I had considered making this video a vlog type video, but decided not to do this in the end. Nothing too exciting features in this video, just 196s and a few 66s on freight. But this was a bit of history in the making however, visiting these new stations, with stopping passenger trains and a few freight services passing through them. I shall be returning to these stations again, this means that I've got some new locations to film at now. So whenever the next time some moves of interest are in this area, I shall be back to these stations I'm sure. I hope both stations will do well and serve passengers for many years to come. There are also 3 other new stations opening in the West Midlands on the Camp Hill line, and they will open next month.
