Dr. Ramsey J. Choucair answers frequently asked questions about plastic surgery and necklifts at www.DrCPlasticSurgery.com What is a necklift? A necklift is a procedure that rejuvenates the neck when other parts of the face either haven't shown a significant amount of aging or the neck is genetically predisposed to a look that doesn't compliment the rest of the face. So, what is an isolated necklift or necklift procedure? A necklift procedure consists of a small incision, usually very tiny, underneath the chin to access and remove fat as necessary and to tighten the muscle, which typically in patients who have a genetic predisposition to a heavy neck, is loose. From that small incision, we tighten the muscle to create a new contour to the neck. The key aspect of being able to do an isolated necklift is that the skin elasticity has to be good enough that when we change the architecture beneath the neck, the skin will re-drape onto that new architecture. You have to have the confidence as a surgeon in assessing the skin and knowing that that skin will re-drape. In those cases, it's a procedure that provides a long-lasting rejuvenation with very little recovery time. Most patients can get back to normal work in an office environment within two to three days. And most patients will have very little discomfort, because typically, it's just a tight feeling as opposed to discomfort. And again, this procedure is such that it's done in a day-surgery setting with very little down time.
