Urban Meyer was a much more normal guy who had a weird coaching reputation (good but scandalous). It’s entirely possible these two megalomaniacs would’ve led interesting and weird and good coaching careers without butting into each other if not for the emotional fealty they’d sworn to their childhood teams. Because unlike the rest of us, Meyer and Harbaugh were invited to live out their coaching dreams and run two of the biggest brands in football – Ohio State and Michigan. And if you get one of those jobs, no matter how much previous success you’ve enjoyed (Meyer) or how much a beloved native son you are (Harbaugh), hating the other side is mandatory non-negotiable. So yeah, this Beef absolutely had to happen in one way or another because of the logos on the polos, but hoo boy, did the weirdness of these two make it a special type of hate.
