What causes Apraxia? - Dr. Namrata Pai
Apraxia can be caused due to many reasons. There is lot of researches going on in this field. There is no exact cause known for it. One of the reasons which has been attributed to apraxia is that it is a neurological disorder. So it might be caused due to any kind of illness or infection which might happen either before birth and after birth because of which the child has difficulty in coordination and planning of the movements of the lips, jaw and the tongue. Also for some children there is no known cause. It is idiopathic as in the child might just have apraxia without any known cause. Also apraxia can co-exist with a complex neuro-developmental disorder like autism or epilepsy or fragile X syndrome.
