(12 May 2020) Traffic slowly resumed along Singapore's commercial and business district but remained light Tuesday as the city-state begins to ease some restrictions enforced to help prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. Selected businesses have been allowed to reopen in a cautious rollback of a two-month partial lockdown Other lockdown measures remain, including confining over 300,000 migrant workers in their dorms until the lockdown period ends June 1. About 90% of Singapore's coronavirus cases are linked to crowded foreign workers' dormitories that were a blind spot in the government's crisis management. Infections in Singapore, an affluent Southeast Asian city-state of fewer than 6 million people, have jumped more than a hundredfold in two months — from 226 in mid-March to more than 23,800, the most in Asia after China, India and Pakistan. Only 20 of the infections have resulted in deaths. For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. But the virus is highly contagious and can be spread by those with mild or no visible symptoms. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and could lead to death.
