The Chief Justice of India has taken suo motu cognizance of the Malda violence linked to the voter list row. The Supreme Court has also taken note of allegations that seven judicial officers were held hostage for nearly nine hours in Kaliachak. The bench flagged a growing trust deficit and the escalating row between the state government and the Election Commission of India. The CJI termed the incident a brazen attempt to browbeat and demoralise judicial officers, calling it a deliberate effort to obstruct the ongoing process.
