Found this old derelict escalator in an old building with a creepy deserted shopping gallery in Palma de Mallorca. The escalator only goes between the lower and upper level of the gallery as the building sits on a hill with one entrance on the bottom and another on the top. The thick layer of dusts on the steps clearly shows that this old escalator has been derelict for a long time, and it's a shame to see it's been left like that. But still a nice old escalator anyway so I decided to film it anyway. The escalator was made by Macosa, and judging by the look of it and the building's retro interior it is most likely from around the 1970s. And it seems that Macosa had something to do with Thyssen, as when I looked at Thyssen's old website on Wayback Machine I saw the name "Macosa Elevación S. A." listed there. Would love to know more about this company though as I couldn't find anything about it on the internet. If anyone from Spain knows more about this company, let me know in the comments below. The shopping gallery itself is creepy and run down. Only half part of the upper floor is still occupied by shops (and those are found at the front door) while the bottom floor is completely empty and dark. It still has that 1970s feel on it which I really like. Also, right above this escalator is a lobby area with two modernized old elevators (by Schindler) that goes up to some apartments or something, but I didn't bother to film them as they have generic mod. In case you're wondering, the address of this building is Costa de la Pols 6. *Update: Macosa (Material y Construcciones S.A.) was indeed acquired by Thyssen, but not sure when it was. The company was a railway manufacturer but also made elevators under its division Macoca Elevación S.A. The main company itself was bought in 1989 by Alstom (GEC-Alstom), a French railway manufacturer. Refer to comments below for details. ¡Muchas gracias! • Brand: Macosa • Installed by: Macosa Elevación S.
