Veterinary Science Careers Program

The Veterinary Science program is open to any junior or senior who wants to know more about veterinary medicine. This program focuses on many aspects of vet med as well as developing professional employability skills to help students who go to college to become a vet tech or Veterinarian or enter into the workforce as a veterinary assistant. Year one is spent in the classroom learning about the basics of veterinary medicine including anatomy, physiology, restraint techniques and animal nursing procedures. This is a hands- on class where students get the opportunity to work with real animals and real clients. Fairfield's Vet Science program has a fully functioning surgery suite and students get the opportunity to see feline spay and neuter procedures up close and personal. The best part is, the students are doing all of the hands-on aspects of surgery day including restraint, surgical preparations, monitoring the patient while under anesthesia, and post-operative care. During year two- students are out on externships learning and working in a clinic, shelter, or animal care facility.
