Immediately after the Heart Break Tour in 1989, lead singers Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill decided to pursue solo careers and left New Edition. Leaving members Ronnie DeVoe, Ricky Bell and Michael Bivins to their own devices. Legendary producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis would suggest that the trio form a group of their own. A suggestion that would be the impetus for the creation of Bell Biv DeVoe. The group would take the genre of New Jack Swing to the next level with the help of producers like The Bomb Squad, Dr. Freeze, Alton Wokie Stewart and Timmy Gatling from Guy. Fusing hip-hop, rap and R&B together to form a new sound of music. Hits like Poison, Do Me, B.B.D (I Thought It Was Me), When Will I See You Smile Again would set the tone for the year of 1990 when it was released in March.
