The first Sunday in October and the WETC open day is recorded in film. A collection of clips unashamedly featuring heavily on the Bournemouth buses, due to the fact they shaped my life having served as a conductor from 1966-69 on trolleybuses and motor buses and as a driver from 1969-70. The in house driving school featured the Leyland Titans PD2/3 viz KEL 133, KEL 131 and KEL 110. The first of the these along with YLJ 147 were on park and ride duty and appeared in superb condition. Also visiting was a Bristol FLF formerly Western National being the same type of bus I drove for Alder Valley circa 1979/80 until they were withdrawn from Bracknell garage. Two more superb vehicles amongst many are Leyland Tigers JLJ 403 from Bournemouth and JA 7591 formerly of Stockport. I left my tripod at home one mistake I will not be making next year!! On the downside is the apparent poor condition some vehicles are slipping into ie 180 which in the spring of 1970 I remember being a joy to drive open top on the coastal service. also ALJ 340B a Daimler Fleetline with MH Cars bodywork and may well be the last surviving bus of its kind. With the well documented history of the Bournemouth collection it's great that the WETC has taken charge of these vehicles but as with anything today funding is the ongoing concern. Oh to win the EuroMillions !!! Anyway sit back and enjoy and lets be thankful for what we have.
