NOTE: I have TWO MUCH NEWER videos all about basal anchors that contain all of these techniques, as well as several new ones which aren't in this video! Please check out my two part series using the links below! Basal Anchor for Tree Climbing - Episode 1 - Simple Anchors • Basic BASAL ANCHORS for Tree Climbing - BA... Basal Anchor for Tree Climbing - Episode 2 - Complex Anchors • Complex BASAL ANCHORS for Tree Climbing - ... ____________________________________________________________ In this thorough episode, I will take the viewer through seven different methods for tying a basal anchor, beginning with the most simple and affordable and ending with ones which are slightly more complex and gear intensive. However, all of these methods can be considered “simple” compared to a lot of the more complicated systems available geared around rescue. I will address those in a second episode coming soon! A basal anchor is a method for securing the standing end of a rope to the stem (trunk) of a tree, countering the climber’s weight on the opposite end of the rope, with a TIP (tie in point) between the two. Because basal anchors will multiply the forces created by a climber by a factor of 2X, it is always a good idea to pick a TIP which has one or more other strong branches just below it, so that if the primary should break, one of the others will likely catch the rope and the climber’s fall will be cut dramatically, preventing serious injury or death; this is called a redundancy. When using the last system, using the GriGri (or any suitable device) as an emergency descender for the climber, be sure to avoid dropping a limb or anything else heavy onto the tope of the device while the climber’s rope is under tension. This could cause an immediate release of rope. It would likely cause a sudden drop, although, chances are good that it would catch again quickly, before the climber hits the ground. Nevertheless, such an event could result in serious injury and getting the shit scared out of you. I know I asked my viewers to check the description, however, this time around, I don’t have a lot to say because I shared a ton of information in my 30 min long episode. If anyone has any questions or comments please share them. I simply want my viewers to get into the habit of checking my descriptions and I will remind everyone at the end of every episode going forward! I hope that this video serves to help as many people as it can and a special thank you to all of my subscribers for supporting my channel and for providing feedback and for energizing me and motivating me to make such informative and eclectic content! If you aren’t yet a subscriber, but you like what you see, please consider doing so! I regularly produce content and much of it is very original. Best wishes, Knot-orious
