Northern Eldborg (Nyrðri Eldborg) volcano and Svínahraun lava field, also known as Christianisation lava field as it happened when Iceland adopted Christiniaty in the year 1000 AD. Filmed today, April 18, 2021. Rocks at the volcano are red because of iron. The oxydation of iron causes this redness. Basaltic magma is high in iron, magnesium and calcium. The genetic link between magmas and ore deposit formation is well documented by studies of fossil hydrothermal systems. Iron in earth's magma oceans forged diamonds deep underground. This lava field is called Svinahraun (Swine lava) or Kristnitökuhraun (Christianisation lava) as the eruption took place around year 1000 when Iceland adopted Christianity. It is right next to the highway from Reykjavik to Thorlakshofn / Hveragerdi, just 25 km from Reykjavik.
