JOIN BROADCAST PLAZA TODAY, DISCORD'S MEDIA DISCUSSION COMMUNITY — http://bit.ly/S31MA Here's the open to the 5:30am half hour of the Saturday morning news from Sinclair's CBS affiliate in Cincinnati, also covering Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky. WKRC Local 12 is generally the market leader and has been since at least the early 90s if not earlier. Many of their staff have been there decades (though thanks to Sinclair this is changing) and their local reporting and content is usually solid. I don't care for the Sinclair approach very much but under Newport and prior owners they were definitely my favorite station in that market. I still think the local staff really really try given the ownership and it does show, it is one of Sinclair's better stations. WKRC used to be an ABC affiliate which is where the "Good Morning Cincinnati" title originated. Oddly, they kept it after switching to CBS in 1996. WCPO I guess wanted to use the "Good Morning" branding for their morning news after picking up ABC, so they went with "Good Morning Tri-State" which makes things even more odder. Yes, ABC doesn't own a trademark on the words "Good Morning", I get that, I'm just pointing out how unusual it is. They did pick up Sinclair's standard graphics last year (which actually is an improvement over the in-house mess they were using) after resisting their standardization for years (they only became a Sinclair station in 2012). Some of the fonts on the graphics (the lower thirds specifically) look off compared to most stations. They did adopt the music in 2016. That music is Sinclair's standard news theme from Warner Chappell Production Music. The voiceover is John Beach who has been used by WKRC since circa 2006. Anchored by David Winter and meteorologist Brad Maushart from home. I actually like his home set a lot. You can tell he's passionate about the weather ("77 Days Until Spring" sign which is a nice touch) without being overly nerdy (I've seen the met who has several computers, thermometers, books, weather radios in the background). Too bad I can't read the whole story about his weather rope since it's cut off. 🤣 ©2021 Sinclair Broadcast Group and WKRC-TV, no copyright infringement intended.
