5 Creepy X-Files Episodes Based on Real Events The names Mulder and Scully of the FOX show, “X-Files,” were once synonymous with anything that has to do with the bizarre and the unexplainable. It may come as a surprise but a handful of “X-Files” episodes were in fact based on real-life events such as government conspiracies, cover-ups, and even paranormal events. As what they always say, life is sometimes stranger than fiction. Here are 5 creepy “X-Files” episodes based on real events. 5. “Space” “Space” is the ninth episode in the first season of the show. First aired on November 12, 1993, the episode centers on special agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) investigating on a possible sabotage operation in NASA’s shuttle program. 4. “Folie à Deux” The nineteenth episode of the fifth season of the show, “Folie à Deux” was written by veteran X-Files writer Vince Gilligan of “Breaking Bad” fame, in case you forgot. Amassing 17.63 million views upon its initial broadcast, this instalment was considered to be one of the most viewed episodes ever on the show. 3. “Tunguska”/ “Terma” “Tunguska” is the eighth episode of the fourth season of the show. A two-part episode, its plot continues in the next episode called “Terma.” In “Tunguska,” Mulder travels to Russia to investigate the source of a black oil contamination. The episode was based on actual events that took place in Russia in 1908 when a massive explosion occurred in a forest near Tunguska River in Siberia. 2. “Nisei” / “731” This another two-part episode of the show was based on the horrors that happened on the real Unit 731 of the former Japanese Imperial Army. It was in the mid-90s when the world finally learned about the atrocities committed by the infamous unit during World War II. 1. “Dreamland” This two-partier instalment is probably the root cause of all the fascination that we have on the US Army’s famous Area 51. Even to this day, it is believed that the US government has been doing research and experiments on alien technology within that well-guarded complex in Nevada desert. Even more so, scientists were supposed to be keeping extra-terrestrial entities captive there. Some they even use to cross-breed with animals and human beings.
