Every national park has one iconic trail it is best known for. In the Great Smoky Mountains, that hike would be the Alum Cave Trail to the top of Mt. LeConte. We hit the trail before 7am for this 12+ mile day hike to see mountain streams full of boulders, Arch Rock, Inspiration Point, Eye of the Needle, Alum Cave Bluffs, LeConte Lodge, Cliff Tops, & Myrtle Point. Mt. LeConte stands at 6593' tall, third tallest in the Smokies, but features the tallest cliff face east of the Mississippi at over 5300'. Is this the Great Smoky Mountains National Park's best hike?
