Handmade Double-Sided Toggle Pin Technique for Repairing Coxofemoral Luxation in a Dysplastic Golden Retriever Layman Abstract : A 2-year-old Golden Retrievers weighing 27.5 kg was brought to the veterinary hospital after getting caught in a neck chain, which caused limping in its left hind leg. Upon examination, the dog's left hind leg appeared shorter, swollen, and painful. X-rays revealed that the hip joint was dislocated (cranio-dorsal coxofemoral luxation) and that the dog also had hip dysplasia in both hips. To fix the dislocation, the dog underwent surgery under general anesthesia. The hip joint was repositioned and stabilized using a special technique involving handmade toggle pin (small metal wires) and nylon thread. Post-surgery X-rays confirmed that the hip joint was properly aligned. The leg was bandaged, and the dog was given antibiotics, painkillers, and supplements. The dog started using the injured leg by the second day after surgery, initially with some limping. However, by the 45th day, it was walking normally. The surgery was successful, and the dog fully recovered.
