Filmed on Thursday, September 18 2025, I drive around Winnetka, IL to see what's going on. The name Winnetka is believed to originate from the Potawatomi language meaning "beautiful place". Winnetka is one of the wealthiest places in the United States in terms of annual household income. According to the US Census Bureau, Winnetka's median household income exceeded $250,000 in 2022. The village was incorporated in 1869 with a population of 450. In 1904, the Winnetka Park District was established, making it the fourth oldest park district in Illinois. Today, Winnetka maintains 27 parks, 5 beaches, golf, tennis, ice staking/hockey, and pickleball facilities. In the 1920s, a colonial house was built at 671 Lincoln Ave, which is now known as the famous "Home Alone" house for it's exterior being used as a shooting location for two films in the series. Winnetka's northern border with Glencoe cuts through 58 homes, causing homeowners to have to pay taxes to both villages. The villages reached a tentative agreement in 2007 allowing each homeowner to choose which village to receive services from while the official boundary remained unchanged. The boundary was officially updated after each homeowner made their choice.
