http://www.edibleacres.org We worked in community recently to process over one ton of nuts in shell of Black Walnut (Juglans Nigra) for our own needs and for friends. We collectively harvested nuts from many sources and processed as a group in two sessions in our driveway. We worked out a few simple approaches that let us process from collected nut to clean and ready for curing at a rate of around 1000 pounds a day. Enough to add a very real amount of fat, protein and delicious and filling food for peoples winter storage. Since the nuts can last a few years in the shell once cured this fun activity actually translated into some deep and long lasting community resilience.
