The song opens with an Alesis 16‑Bit Drum Machine, because of course it does. Nothing says “I record in a room full of cables and existential dread” quite like a drum machine that sounds like it was last updated during his childhood while opening a can of Lincoln Logs. But somehow, it works — a soft, dusty pulse that feels like it’s trying its best not to wake the neighbors. Then comes the 1976 Fender Precision Bass, thumping along with the weary confidence of a piece of gear that’s seen more life than most of us. The Seagull Maritime acoustic strums the first rhythm part with that unmistakable “I wrote this at 2 a.m. and didn’t bother tuning” charm, while the Baja Telecaster adds a second rhythm layer that politely asks the acoustic to please stop hogging the spotlight. The Jazzmaster Special handles lead duties, drifting through the mix like a bored angel who took a wrong turn on the way to a shoegaze session. It’s melodic, it’s wandering, it’s slightly confused — which is exactly why it fits. And then there’s the Hohner Marine Band harmonica, which blows through the track like a man standing on his porch trying to remember why he walked outside in the first place. It’s plaintive, it’s earnest, and it’s just unpolished enough to feel charming instead of tragic. The Hammond XT124 organ swells underneath with that Leslie shimmer, giving the whole thing a soft, cosmic glow — like the soundtrack to a documentary about stargazing narrated by someone who definitely owns a telescope but won’t admit it. Vocally, Steklo delivers the song with the gentle sincerity of a man who has absolutely no interest in pretending to be cool. The lyrics are simple, almost childlike, and delivered with a straight face — which is either bold artistic restraint or the result of recording at 3 a.m. after not enough coffee. But here’s the annoying part: It works. It really works. “Just Look Into The Sky” is lo‑fi, alt‑country, slightly cosmic, slightly unhinged, and completely sincere — the kind of track you pretend to mock but secretly adds to a playlist called “Songs For When I’m Feeling Things.” Steklo may not be reinventing folk, but he’s definitely staring at the stars with enough conviction to make you look up too.
