This is a weird game. You have to go through a burning building and rescue survivors. But you need to have a certain amount of crystals to rescue them at that moment as you can’t go back. They are like rings in Sonic where they are everywhere but as soon as you get hit, you lose them all. This wouldn’t be so bad if fire just didn’t pop up out of nowhere and hit you making you lose you crystals. You are taught in the (way too long) tutorial that if you hear a certain noise, a fire will pop up and you must press back during that sound to backflip away from it. Luckily, I didn’t miss this important information from the Japanese tutorial. After the first level I had mastered the timing and had gotten muscle memory from hearing the sound. Then on the second level, they just decided to stop giving me the warning sound. So, I had no way of knowing when the spontaneous combustion would come about so would get hit every time. This really infuriated me. Especially when I came to rescue survivors and didn’t have crystals. I would have to purposefully not collect crystals so that they wouldn’t disappear when I got to them. The first level also has a very annoying dark section where its like being in a maze in the dark. It just throws this curveball at you just as you are trying to get acquainted with how the game works. The third level is decent because it’s short and there are hardly any people to rescue. It’s more about navigating the level with switches. The fourth level is longer than the third and it’s by far the best. It’s more about platforming, exploring, and fighting bosses. There is no one to rescue and the spontaneous combustion is limited so you don’t feel unfairly attacked throughout the level. There are a lot of boss fights and also a spaceship flight section. All of these extra’s were unexpected and I enjoyed all the bosses. I like the controls of this game generally. They can get a bit awkward when the camera doesn’t see what’s around you. Especially when you are in a small room and have an enemy to defeat. Its hit and miss. At least the charge weapon is a homing attack. It’s a bit weird that you have to use a laser to put the fire out. The graphics are good but a bit too ambitious for the Saturn because the pop up is ridiculous. Polygons just appear and disappear all over the place. If this game just followed the formula of the fourth level, it would be great. But because of the annoying mechanics of the first couple of levels it was ruined. At least they left the best until last and I came away happy after finishing the game.
