I hadn't really found the motivation or inspiration to write in quite a long time. That changed suddenly with the unexpected passing of my stepmother, who was very much like a second mother to me. "Altar" is written primarily from the perspective of my father who has had to face this horrible and profound loss of his partner of over 25 years. As opposed to being a song about loss, it's really about the hope it healing and restoration. Even after such a tragic loss, the sun will still rise."
