How To Use Crimp Covers Jewelry Findings

Hi, there. In this video, I'll be telling you how to use crimp covers to make your jewelry more professional and finished-looking. Crimp covers are a great way to finish your jewelry and give you just a much nicer look that leaving plain exposed flattened crimps. And crimp covers come in all different finishes. You can get them in silver-plated, gun metal. These even have a corrugated decoration to them. These are base metal but you can find them in sterling silver, gold-plated, any kind of finish that you need to match your jewelry. And they sort of look like a little donut with a bite taken out of it. And they can be a bit tricky to pick up with chain-nosed pliers. So my favorite tool for picking up and applying crimp covers is actually crimping pliers because they've got these rounded bits right here. And so what I usually do is I put my crimp cover down on my work surface with the opening facing towards my non-dominant side, my left side. And then I just put the crimp pliers down and gently pick it up. You don't want to squeeze right now because if you squeeze, you'll close it and we don't want to close it yet. Before we close it we want to slide it over the crimp that we've flattened and then squeeze. And now instead of a flattened crimp it looks like you just have a little bead on there. Let me show you one more time. Just set the cover down on your work surface, use that rounded part of the crimping pliers at the tips to pick it up gently, slide it right over your flattened crimp and there you go. And if you need to, if your little bead doesn't look quite round, you can use the crimping pliers to reshape it a bit so it's a nice, round little bead.
