It is a place that produced many outstanding figures from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republican era, and served as the sole foreign trade port during the Qing's "single-port trading" period. This is an ancient Lingnan village with a history spanning a millennium. Here you will find blue bricks, grey tiles, pot-ear houses, granite streets, banana fields, river embankments, creeks, and rural ferries. Two or three centuries ago, by a small village dock under a large banyan tree, the silhouettes of merchants disembarking from foreign ships would crowd the scene. The Huangpu Ancient Port within Huangpu Village stands as a testament to the prosperity of Guangzhou's "Maritime Silk Road."
