At the 2025 Paris Air Show, MBDA and the French Ministry of the Armed Forces showcased for the first time a scale model showing the launching unit for the "Land Cruise Missile" (LCM) project. We interviewied Pierre-Marie Belleau, Deep Strike Product Line Owner at MBDA and the Naval Cruise Missile (NCM) program director at DGA to find out more. ===================== The LCM is based on the in-service NCM. The LCM project is being promoted by MBDA to offer Europe an alternative to the American Tomahawk in its ground-launched variant (Typhon / Mid Range Capability in use by the US Army). The French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA) is now involved in the project. It is preparing a demonstration launch at the DGA Missile Testing site in Landes in the 2028 timeframe, the culmination of an approach aimed at responding as quickly as possible to a growing need. Moving quickly is the key, and the reason for choosing a proven, risk-free missile capable of striking hardened and heavily defended targets at ranges of over 1,000 km, maneuvering at Mach 0.8 and with metric precision. Technically identical, the two variants should differ only in that, at first glance, a land-based variant, which is not subject to the harsh marine environment, is easier to qualify, which will further accelerate the process. The bulk of the effort will actually focus on the launcher. As anticipated last year with the introduction of the LCM, MBDA is moving towards a launcher capable of carrying up to two canister of two missiles each. In addition, MBDA is proposing the LCM for the European initiative "ELSA", aimed at strengthening all-round deep strike capabilities. Launched last summer by France, Germany, Italy, and Poland, it has since been joined by Sweden and the United Kingdom. These are all potential prospects, starting with the Italian armed forces already keen to acquire the naval version. And many armed forces will also be closely monitoring the achievement of the milestone set for 2028. ===================== For new videos every week, subscribe here! http://www.youtube.com/c/NavalNews?su...
