You should know him though for his incredible recent releases on Best Works, Room With A View and Simple. The Berliner has been honing his skills as a DJ and producer since the reunification of Germany in 1989. As the oppressive censorship of the then ruling communist party began to fade he was able to progress from an old reel to reel tape to his first pair of Technics. The opening up of the airwaves meant Andre was able to educate himself by listening to West German radio stations like RIAS and SFB for hours at a time, immersing himself in new music. Hs Freerange debut contains two original tracks entitled Still Dreaming and Whatever I Do with a remix from one of our favourite German abstract house mavericks -- SoulPhiction. Opening up we're treated to Still Dreaming, a beautifully undulating and deeply musical slice of house which oozes warmth and soul from the low slung rumbling bass through to the syncopated stabs. Powerful yet understated at the same time, this one will work a treat on the deeper dancefloors. Next up we have SoulPhiction on the controls, flipping Still Dreaming on its head, reducing it to the bare beats and bass and introducing a darker feel whilst keeping a raw, underground house vibe. Quality stuff from an influential player. Finally, Whatever I Do rocks a fat rolling beat and soundtrack strings to create an atmospheric piece of forward-looking house, tried and tested by Andre himself in a selection of Berlin nighteries, with exceptional results.
