Dickson Chan plays 'See Amid the Winter's Snow' on the 1898 Norman & Beard organ of St Patrick's Catholic Cathedral, Parramatta. 'See Amid the Winter's Snow,' which dates from 1851, was one of around 60 original hymns written by Edward Caswall (1814-1878), whose main hymn output - involving more than 250 hymns - comprised translations. 'Humility' was published in 1871, the work of John Goss (1814-1878), a singer, organist, composer and teacher who was Professor of Music at the RAM from 1827 to 1884 and Organist of St Paul's Cathedral from 1838 to 1872. See, amid the winter's snow, born for us on earth below, see the tender Lamb appears, promised from eternal years. Hail, thou ever blessed morn! Hail, redemption's happy dawn! Sing through all Jerusalem, 'Christ is born in Bethlehem.' Lo, within a manger lies He who built the starry skies; He who, throned in height sublime, sits amid the cherubim! Say, ye holy shepherds, say, what's your joyful news today? Wherefore have ye left your sheep on the lonely mountain steep? ''As we watched at dead of night, Lo! we saw a wondrous light; angels singing 'Peace on earth' told us of the Saviour's birth.'' Sacred infant, all divine, what a tender love was thine, thus to come from highest bliss down to such a world as this! Teach, O teach us, Holy Child, by thy face so meek and mild, teach us to resemble thee, in thy sweet humility! Details of the organ can be found at: https://ohta.org.au/confs/Sydney/STPA... The recording was made on 6 December 2025.
