Spermatogenesis and oogenesis are two essential processes of gamete formation in males and females, respectively. Spermatogenesisboccurs in the testes and results in the production of four haploid sperm cells from a single germ cell. It begins at puberty and continues throughout life. Oogenesis, on the other hand, occurs in the ovaries and leads to the formation of one mature ovum and polar bodies from a single oogonium. It starts before birth, pauses at prophase-I, and resumes at puberty. Unlike spermatogenesis, oogenesis is a discontinuous and limited process. Both processes involve meiosis but differ in timing, outcome, and continuity.
