For more information on this watch visit: https://www.iconicwatches.co.uk/ This is the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, model number 116506 We have reviewed a Rolex Daytona before, but they come in many different forms, and this one is quite special. The presentation box for this watch is the familiar green box - with a wave effect on top and a gold Rolex logo – that can be seen on other Rolexes, however, this one is much larger and quite impressive when you first see it. It definitely signifies that there is something different about this iteration of the Daytona. Inside the box, you can lift up the base to reveal a number of compartments to store spare straps, links or even your cuff links or jewellery if you like. The instruction manual and 5-year warranty card are stored neatly away in a compartment in the lid of the box. The main feature that sets this watch apart from the rest of the collection is that the case and strap are made from platinum. Platinum is exceptionally resistant to corrosion and is recognisable by its silvery whiteness and a very vibrant luminosity. The oyster bracelet is very comfortable to wear thanks to it flat three-piece links and features a folding Oysterlock safety clasp which allows for minor alterations for the perfect fit. The back of the watch is simple with the screw down case back which is a well-known feature of the oyster case used in the Daytona collection. On the side of the watch, you will find the screw down crown with Triplock triple waterproof system and the two screw-down push buttons that control the chronograph. The cold ice blue face of this watch really complements the platinum case and strap while making the watch stand out. There are three chronograph dials that are clear and easy to read. The chronograph dials and the bezel are an interesting chestnut brown colour which gives a softer look than the black, gold or silver that you might associate with the rest of the collection. At the heart of this watch is the calibre 4130: a perpetual, mechanical chronograph, a self-winding movement that was developed and built entirely by Rolex. The great think about the 4130 is that it incorporates far fewer components than a standard chronograph, which makes it much more reliable. On the wrist, it is comfortable to wear and the same 40mm size that you will find with all Daytona watches. However, this watch looks fresh and bright and will definitely attract a few enquiring and curious looks. Rolex offers a large variety of Daytona options that you can buy at a lower price, but if you love the Daytona design and want something a little more unique and special, then this could very well be the one you are looking for.
