Oh my God. 3rd place!! :'D I am very proud. ^^ Please watch in HQ and read the story if you are unfamiliar with Hamlet. :D And...well, I know it follows the theme of revenge more than betrayal, but I tried to incorporate betrayal as much as I could into it. Really. Everyone gets betrayed in Hamlet. Credits: Thanks to PerfectGenius23 for the amazing Cloud v. Leon footage. _______________________________________ Ophelia: Aerith Laertes: Squall Gertrude: Yuna King Hamlet: Rasler Claudius: Sephiroth Hamlet: Cloud Story: Yuna and Prince Rasler are getting married. Sephiroth, the best man, shares furtive glances with Yuna throughout the ceremony. Yuna and Rasler have a baby boy, Cloud, yet despite their marriage something stronger grows between Yuna and Sephiroth over the years. Cloud becomes a fine young man, yet Rasler suffers a mysterious death and Cloud is overcome with melancholy. While he is still mourning the loss of his beloved father, not even a month has passed until his mother remarries to Sephiroth. Cloud, disgusted by his mother's promiscuous behavior, withdraws further into himself, rejecting any form of comfort from the object of his affection, Aerith, who is deeply concerned for him. Cloud pulls away from his mother, and as he goes off he soon sees his father's ghost. Whether it is the figment of a damaged mind desperate to see a loved one or the genuine spirit of his father, Cloud follows him. Rasler shows Cloud what really happened the night he died: Sephiroth, who had been an idol to Cloud, had murdered Rasler so he could inherit the throne and subsequently dear Yuna. Yuna's erratic behavior suddenly makes sense; she had been having an affair with Sephiroth, and she too had wanted Rasler gone so she could be with him. Rasler wants Cloud to avenge his death, and Cloud is willing to comply. Seeing Yuna and Sephiroth together only serves to further his hatred towards Yuna's weakness and Aerith—she would probably betray him the way his mother had to his father. He stops himself from killing Sephiroth, choosing instead to commit the act in a more private and insconspicous place. Aerith tries once again to comfort Cloud, but she cannot reach the place his mind has gone to. He tells her cruel and obscene things, things about her that weren't true yet he accused her of. Aerith, not understanding why he would say such hurtful things, is devastated by his words, though she cannot see why he forced himself to to push away the woman he loved. Cloud begins to plot his revenge. However, it never seems to be the right time. As Cloud procrastinates, he cannot help the pain of betrayal from the ones he loves lead him into an inevitable decline to madness. Finally Yuna tries to confront her son, and Cloud repudiates her. Upon seeing the ghost of his father (a ghost Yuna could not see), Cloud settles down and tries to have his mother understand-- she believes he has completely lost his mind. Cloud, consumed with the thought of revenge, ignores Aerith and her pleas for his attention. Soon after, Cloud discovers that Aerith, her mind so lost by what Cloud had done to her, had drowned. Whether it was intentional suicide or true madness that allowed her to drown remains a mystery--but Cloud is filled with regret. Squall, Aerith's brother, returns home upon hearing of his sister's death. Squall, believing Cloud's behavior and rejection to be the death of his sister, swears vengeance against him. Sephiroth, who had begun to suspect that Cloud knew he was the one to kill Rasler, convinces Squall to duel Cloud, where his stepson would hopefully meet his end. The duel commences soon after, and the two fight. Yuna appears and tries to come between the two men, knowing that the two were fighting to kill. However, she gets caught in the crossfire and before either Cloud or Leon can do anything, she is struck down dead. It is then Cloud begins showing signs of weakness in an agonized rage, and it is then where Leon finds an opening to mortally wound Cloud. However, he keeps fighting and manages to strike down Leon. Before Cloud himself meets death, he goes after Sephiroth and successfully avenges his dead father.
