With applications in the fishing, food processing, produce, meat and poultry, and construction industries, the Berg Shell-Ice Maker can produce 5 to 50 tons of fragmented ice per day. It can be customized to meet the ultra-sanitary requirements to freeze liquids other than just water, including blood-plasma or juices. The Berg Shell-Ice Maker is based on the proven principal of making ice on a tubular evaporator and harvesting it by use of gravity. Here is how it works. First, water is sprayed onto double-walled stainless steel evaporator tubes. As the water cascades down the inner and outer surfaces of the tubes it gets chilled down to its freezing temperature. Any water that doesn’t freeze is recycled through the system, maximizing energy efficiency. After the ice has reached the client’s desired thickness, hot compressor discharge gas is redirected into the tubes causing the ice to fall into a delivery trough below. The discharge auger in the trough reduces the ice shells into finely divided, irregular shaped fragments and delivers the ice shells from the machine for immediate use or to storage. The cycle then automatically repeats itself. The flexibility of being able to choose ice thickness is important for some operators – as can the choice of using a softer, colder salt or sea water ice.
