(9 Jul 2017) GREEN DAY'S BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG EXPRESSES SADNESS AFTER "HORRIFIC" DEATH OF AN ACROBAT PRIOR TO CONCERT "Green Day" frontman Billie Joe Armstrong expressed his sadness for an acrobat who fell to his death while performing before Green Day took the same stage in Madrid, Spain. In a statement released Sunday (09 JULY 2017) Armstrong said that Green Day was unaware that the accident had occurred until after their performance ended. "15 minutes prior our tour management was told by local authorities to wait to go on stage because there was some sort of security issue," Armstrong wrote in the statement. "Security issues are a normal occurrence and procedure at any show...we were NOT told why which is also normal. We waited as we were instructed. Still, we had no clue there was any such accident." Green Day was performing at the "Mad Cool" rock music festival in Madrid on Friday night when the tragic accident occured. "Many of you are wondering why we continued to play our show after the accident," Armstrong wrote. "If we had known prior to our performance, we most likely would not have played at all. We are not heartless people. The safety and well-being at any of our concerts absolutely comes first." Armstrong expressed his condolences to the acrobat's family. "We are so sad for Pedro and his family and we pray for them in this time of grief. I can't imagine how much suffering the friends and family are going through."
