On December 31, 2007, Sesimbra hosted its first big New Year's Eve party, bringing thousands of people together along the waterfront. The highlight was Underwater New Year's Eve, which took more than a hundred divers to mark 2008 with lights at the bottom of Sesimbra Bay. The unprecedented initiative became one of the country's most original New Year's Eve. Since then, on the last day of the year, divers from all over the country have headed to Sesimbra to celebrate this special New Year's Eve. In 2023, it will be no different. The City Council and the diving schools Anthia Diving Center, Cipreia, Mega Dive, and Haliotis are already working to mark the 15th New Year's Eve Sub in the best possible way. The objective is clear: to bring together a hundred participants again to affirm Sesimbra as the diving capital of Portugal and one of the main places to practice this activity in Europe. This year's big news is the live transmission of all the activity on a giant screen placed in Largo da Marinha and on social media. The underwater images will be taken by Nuno Sá, photographer, cameraman, and director, who is a world reference. This way, the public will be able to watch all the action, from preparations to boarding and, at midnight, diving. At the same time, on the surface, there will be the usual fireworks display accompanied by music that will spread throughout the entire Marginal. The entertainment starts at 10 pm and continues after the fireworks with DJ music until 4 am.
