https://www.lotuslaser.com/ In this video we show Blu70 laser engraving and cutting sheet PU foam material. Blu70 is a laser cutting and engraving machine with a 60w DC CO2 laser source and a work area of 700x500mm The high flow of air delivered through the nosecone and the strong vacuum and exhaust air flow through the underside extraction table are particular advantages for this laser cutting application because not only does the vacuum hold the material flat, the high degree of flow through the nosecone improves edge quality by cooling the material after the laser has passed through it and it also prevents fumes from contaminating the lens. In this trial we use feed rates of 50mm/s at 50% power for the 10mm material and 40mm/s at 60% power for the 50mm material. It is technically possible to double the speed of cut, however, only if the geometry consists of relatively straight lines. Going to fast with a more complex cut can deteriorate the cut quality as well as place extra stresses on the motion system. The feed rates used in this video should produce a consistently good quality without any significant adverse effect on the motion system Another point to note is that for these trials we have used a standard 2.5" focal length lens but for cutting the thicker material it would be an advantage to use a lens with a 4" focal length so that the narrower beam divergence keeps a straighter cut. This 4" lens can be provided at extra cost to special order Engraving speed was set at 500mm/s at 20% power and with a hatch interval of 0.2mm Here at Lotus Laser Systems we have extensive experience in laser marking within a range of industries and applications For more information on how we can help you please visit our website and get in touch.
