9. Antwerp City - City Center near Middenstatie (4K60P POV Walk)

Hello everyone, My name is Steve. Thank you for viewing this video and joining me on this walk. This video is a sequel to the previous video and was filmed on the same day. We start our route from Middenstatie, or commonly known is Antwerp Central Train Station, at Queen Astrid Sqr (Koningin Astridplein), and we make our way through the Asian District / Chinatown towards Roosevelt. There, we visit Kipdorp, an archaeological site where we can view part of the old age city wall. In the Middle Ages, Antwerp was surrounded by a wall and the river Nesten, and you could only enter the city using one of the two main gates: Kipdorppoort and Keizerspoort. I'm not sure when, but I guess somewhere in the 19th century, most of the wall was demolished, which allowed the City of Antwerp to expand. Kipdorp was recently rediscovered after construction works in 2010-2018 for a new tunnel that goes beneath the "Antwerpse Leien". Next, we enter the "Lange Nieuwstraat" and move up towards the "Meir," a very popular shopping street that extends all the way from De Keyserlei. We pass the statues of Antoon Van Duyck and David Teniers, pass the Opera square and Antwerp Tower, and through De Keyserlei back towards Middenstatie, where we come to the end of our tour.
