Goodbye VLM Airlines (flyVLM). This aviation video features the Fokker 50 aeroplanes of Belgian regional carrier VLM Airlines. The video was created as a tribute as the airline announced a cessation of all flight operations on 22 June 2016. ** As of 31st August 2018 the new FlyVLM has ceased all operations and is to be liquidated this followed a previous statement a few weeks earlier that only two scheduled routes were to be retained. MORE INFORMATION AND FLIGHT BOOKING AT FLYVLM.COM this video refers to the original airline more details below - Thank you and good luck to all at the new FlyVLM *** VLM (FlyVLM) was a Belgian regional airline that was formed in 1992 and commenced flights in 1993. In 2007 the airline was taken over by Air France-KLM and merged into CityJet which they had also purchased. By 2014 CityJet under it's then ownership was not profit making and a decision was taken to sell the airline to an investment group. CityJet and VLM were to be made into separate airlines again. CityJet has since been acquired by it's founder Pat Byrne. VLM was subject of a management buyout. Both airlines still co-operated on some flights with at least one of the 10 Fokker 50's VLM was operating, still in CityJet colours. CityJet appears to be in a much strengthened position with a growing fleet and fleet renewal programme in the form of the Sukhoi SuperJet. Indeed VLM had been the first European Airline to place an order for the type; although this was subsequently cancelled. VLM operated scheduled, charter and ACMI flights for other airlines including Flybe flights from London Stansted to Newquay in 2015. The beginning of difficulties at VLM appeared when they cancelled their Waterford Ireland - Birmingham Route. An announcement was made in May 2016 seeking protection from creditors. The airline went on to cancel more routes including Waterford Ireland - London Luton, leaving Waterford without scheduled services. On 22 June 2016 VLM Airlines cancelled all flight operations and declared bankruptcy. This video contains various footage of VLM Fokker 50 aircraft in all three of their own VLM branded livery from 2001, 2009/10 and 2015.
