POURING A CONCRETE FLOOR INSIDE A FROST WALL FOUNDATION

#CONCRETEFLOOR #CONCRETEFOUNDATION #FROSTWALL In this video I'm pouring a concrete floor inside a frost wall foundation. In Maine we get freezing cold temperatures for December, January, and February. Most of the new homes being built have concrete foundations that go 4 feet deep into the ground. That is considered the frost line, about 4' deep. If your concrete wall and footings are at least 4 feet under the ground, the frozen ground will not heave and crack the foundation. The concrete floor we're pouring for this new home on a lake has just a frost wall foundation with the concrete floor at grade (or top of wall). So, no basement in this house/camp. Probably about 1/3 of the new homes we pour floors in have this type of foundation. It really makes installing the concrete floor quite easy as we can just match the top of the foundation wall on the perimeter and make our "wet pads" to screed off from in the middle. This is a 10 cubic yard concrete floor, we used 3000 psi concrete with fibermesh reinforcement. Pouring inside a frost wall like this, the floor doesn't need wire mesh or rebar because if the concrete floor cracks, it can't go anywhere. It's inside the frost wall. We saw expansion joints in the floor after power troweling to help control any shrinkage cracking. If you'd like to learn how to pour your own concrete slab, you can check out my course below.
