And surrendered victory to the dark ; Because I don't want to see all these ugly things, Like monsters in the shadows I choose not to believe, Honest faces and the pain they breed, Sincere smiles and the lies they bleed, Open arms full of sweet smelling grief, A pretty painted promise colored with deceit, With words sweet as candy to ease you to sleep All the better to cut your throat so quietly Rape your trust and kill all your dreams ; Alone in this darkness I stumble Blindly bumping into locked doors and walls, Could anyone be kind or cruel enough To turn the blinding lights back on, And if I should wake what would I see?
