MTE improving a liquid distributor

During turnarounds this week MTE’s installation team found a liquid distributor in a packed bed column which turned out to be damaged to such an extent that it needed to be replaced. A job which was applied to MTE because of our in-house engineering and production in The Netherlands. During engineering MTE discovered that the hydraulic design of the existing liquid distributor turned out to be inadequate and unable to handle the average and maximum operational liquid flow. MTE calculated that the existing liquid distributor would overflow very quickly, causing severe liquid maldistribution, which in most cases leads to loss of efficiency. After feedback from our customer in Rotterdam / Botlek it was confirmed that they had problems with the column for a very long time. After re-engineering and production of the new liquid distributor, it passed the test in MTE’s hydraulic functionality test facility. The customer was very pleased to receive the redesigned liquid distributor the next day.
