In this episode of The Creative Corner, we travel to Alabama to sit down with Dr. Camelia Straughn—a 23-year Army veteran whose life mission is defined by resilience, advocacy, and radical healing. Dr. Straughn’s journey began in the high-tech world of military satellite and radio construction, but her true calling emerged in the heart of human struggle. For 17 years of her military career, she served as a suicide prevention instructor and a dedicated advocate for survivors of Military Sexual Trauma (MST). Today, as a retired veteran and author of over five books, she continues her work on the civilian side. A survivor of childhood trauma, sexual assault, and domestic violence herself, Dr. Straughn uses her lived experience to ensure no woman ever feels alone in her recovery. In this interview, we discuss: The transition from technical military roles to high-impact advocacy. The importance of peer-to-peer training in suicide prevention. How she assists families in supporting their loved ones through the healing process. Her mission is to break the silence surrounding domestic and sexual violence. Join us for an intimate look at a woman who turned her own survival into a blueprint for others to find peace.
