The IFPI described the news as "a landmark moment." It added BTS has demonstrated its extraordinarily unique global appeal,... and their fanbase helped the group make such an achievement. The award is calculated according to an artist's or group's worldwide performance during the year,... including downloads, streams, as well as physical sales. BTS, consisting of members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, first entered the IFPI global artist chart in 2018 at number two. BTS is set to perform a series of concerts to live audiences in Seoul in mid-March. It'll be the first time for them to perform live in front of South Korean fans in about two and a half years.
