Interview with Vadim Nozdrin, ITU, speaking about the 79 GHz Project Workshop held at International Telecommunication Union, Geneva, 7 November 2012. Harmonized 79 GHz frequency band sought for automotive radars - Affordable in-vehicle radars for road safety and efficient transport systems. ITU hosted a workshop in Geneva on 7 November 2012 to demonstrate the progress made over the past year in developing short-range high-resolution automotive radar systems in the 79 GHz frequency band that will contribute to increased transport efficiencies and road safety. The developments have been made within the automotive industry, working together with international bodies such as ITU and the European Commission. The workshop was organized by the industry-based '79 GHz Consortium' in coordination with ITU's Radiocommunication Bureau. Agreement is sought on 79 GHz as the worldwide harmonized frequency band for automotive radars. Based on studies conducted by the ITU Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R), the World Radiocommunication Conference 2015 will consider the allocation of the band 77.5-78 GHz to the radiolocation service.
