For Mario Day, I wanted to do something special by actually playing a Mario game instead of a L4D2 map of Mario like I’ve done before (*cough cough* Left 4 Mario). I’ve played SMG1 and 2 since I was just a wee lad and I’m decent at both of them, so I figured I’d play a SMG2 hack. And of course, I'll play more hacks for this game in the future including the other Luma's Workshop competitions! This was a custom galaxy competition from 2021 where the theme was using no more than 5 objects in the galaxies. There were 9 galaxies submitted for this competition, and I tried to complete all of them. Unfortunately, there was 1 galaxy I wasn’t able to complete, though, but I still wanted to try it anyway. Also, I used a save file where I only completed World 1 in the first 2 galaxies but, since the other custom galaxies were coded from vanilla galaxies in later worlds, I used a 100% save file to be able to play those Piranha Plant Galaxy (by PudvahCrew) Piranha Overload (0:00) Green Star 1 (3:12) I don’t have much to say since it was so short but it was decent :D Super Mario Galaxy (by Taycamgame) Blow Up the Logo (4:41) Green Star 1 (6:56) This was another short one that was overall not bad Desolate Gardens Galaxy (by FrasseFreak) Restoring the Garden [Couldn't complete] (8:12) Cool concept but I sadly couldn’t get past the fourth planet. I'm lucky to have pulled off a sideflip on the pianta statue to get the comet medal because I couldn't do it again due to the slope collision Grassy Bluff Galaxy (by Gabbo) Fluffy Bluff (14:15) Turning Turning Double Time (17:12) The first star was okay but the second star was literally the same except the Twisty Trials prankster comet planets were slapped in the middle of it and awkwardly clipping through the existing planets. I wish that arrow was removed because the planet it was pointing to was a softlock. The checkpoint and Yoshi egg crystals were also evil XD. I wouldn’t have completed the comet if it weren’t for savestates Light Speed Galaxy (by FortTheo) At the Speed of Light (21:04) Green Star 1 (25:51) It felt like a mashup of Beat Block, Flip-Swap and Hightail Falls, I liked it. Interesting Bouldergeist fight too XD Chopper Dodge Galaxy (by Pineapple840) You Jump, You lose. (26:58) Green Star 1 (29:02) I really liked the concept, and the camera angle, while a little disorienting, was very cool to see given that a lot of custom galaxies I’ve seen don’t have customized cameras Artistic Amazement Galaxy (by AwesomeTMC) Rules of the Arts (30:40) Green Star 1 (32:37) This was visually creative and very satisfying to play. I always like 2D-restrictions in custom galaxies Amazing Forest Galaxy (by Xandog) Magnificent Forest (33:54) Green Star 1 (35:26) Even though this was objectively the worst galaxy in the competition, that was intentional because of the slow flight to the first planet and green star and the millions of checkpoints at the beginning XD. I definitely had to use savestates since the green star was purely luck-based. I don’t know if there was a comet medal but I guess it’s ok since there wasn’t a prankster comet star anyway Tweester Tower Galaxy (by Aurum) Riding the Desert Winds (39:06) Green Star 1 (43:07) Pacing was a little sluggish because of using the tornadoes and tweesters but that's more on Dusty Dune than this galaxy.
