In this Red Sofa interview from Automotive Logistics and Supply Chain Europe 2025 in Bonn, Nadine Philipp, vice-president, sustainability supplier network at BMW Group, outlined the company’s comprehensive approach to decarbonising its global supply chain. As BMW increases its share of electric vehicles, emissions in the upstream supply chain have risen, driven by energy-intensive battery production and raw material sourcing. BMW is actively working with suppliers and logistics providers to reduce emissions through recycled packaging, route optimisation, and the use of alternative fuels and drivetrains. To improve regulatory alignment across the network, Philipp said we are in need of harmonised CO2 calculation methods and regulatory frameworks across Europe and globally to ensure consistent progress and simplify compliance. Sustainability is also a business imperative, accroding to Philipp. She said that BMW sees sustainability not only as a responsibility but as a critical success factor, balancing environmental, social, and economic goals even during challenging times.
