However, due to the collapse of copper prices, it ceased operations in 1919 and was abolished in 1925. It closed after only 10 years as a copper smelter and was abandoned for about 90 years. Since 2001, the Naoshima Fukutake Museum of Art has been reusing the former smelter as part of the Inujima Art Project.
