In this video I show how to use a flint and steel striker to light the forge. In my last video I showed the process of making a striker and now I will show it in use. There are a few things that you need when using flint and steel and the most important one is char cloth. The char cloth will catch the spark and hold it long enough to get it into a nest of tinder. From there it is just a matter of lightly blowing on it until it catches flame. Once I have a flame going I light my forge. To prepare the forge I bunch up 5 or 6 sheets of newspaper and bank it with yesterdays coke. Once that paper is lit the forge blower takes over and within 4 or 5 minutes I have a useable fire! Beckett’s Blacksmithing At Beckett’s Blacksmithing I specialize in hand forged products and custom decorative ironwork. I use traditional tools and methods and heat my steel in a coal fired forge. In addition to this, I use modern tools such as welders, power tools, and gas torches to bring this ancient trade into the modern era. Social Media YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmrN...
