The new Jurassic World film is incredibly underrated, and it deserves way more credit for course-correcting the series after Colin Trevorrow’s ambitious but polarizing trilogy. Thank you, David Koepp, for steering the ship back to the rhythm, feel, and idiosyncrasies of Jurassic Park instead of the World films. While I enjoy those movies for what they are, Rebirth felt like a refreshing return home — aided by Koepp repackaging unused ideas from The Lost World and Jurassic Park III. Yes, the first 20 minutes are rough, but once it finds its groove? This thing soars. A perfect synthesis of JP2 and JP3: very Crichton in its philosophies and scathing critique of science colliding with capitalism, yet Spielbergian in its spectacle. The T-Rex raft sequence is an all-timer, the Skull Island expedition finally lets the ecosystem breathe and feel alive, and the Mosasaur chase (with some cheeky Jaws nods) rivals the iconic dino hunt from The Lost World. And Gareth Edwards’ pitch-perfect Belloq homage? Chef’s kiss. Edwards brings his signature sense of scope, scale, and awe, making dinosaurs feel massive again — majestic, terrifying, humbling — like they haven’t since the original film. Jurassic World: Rebirth is everything you want out of a summer blockbuster: thrilling, thoughtful, and brimming with wonder.
