Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii) is known for being extremely difficult to air layer, some say "nearly impossible" often taking several months or more than a year to root, if at all. In this video I demonstrate a method of air layering Japanese Black Pine that has worked great for me and has resulted in 100% success in rooting over the last three years. This particular method of air layering was inspired by 'George Muranaka' and his blog, and I will provide a link to his blog below. Most of my layers are rooted enough after three to four months to be detached and survive on their own roots.
